A versatile independent gym built around strength, conditioning and performance
"From the start, we wanted 11:11 to feel different from a typical gym. The layout has given us distinct areas for strength, conditioning and performance training without the space feeling overcrowded. It’s created exactly the type of training environment we had in mind."

The Challenge
For a new independent gym, the challenge was not simply fitting equipment into the available floor space. 11:11 needed to create a facility with enough variety to appeal to different training preferences while still feeling coherent, spacious and purposeful.
The same environment needed to accommodate serious strength training, cardio, functional conditioning and performance-focused work. Without careful planning, that breadth of training could easily have resulted in competing areas, restricted movement through the gym and equipment dominating the space rather than supporting the member experience.
For an independent operator establishing a new facility, getting those decisions right from the outset was important. The layout needed to work operationally from day one while giving 11:11 a distinctive identity of its own.
The Solution
Gym Gear approached the project by designing the room around how the different training areas would interact, rather than treating each piece of equipment individually. The initial design work established clearly defined but connected areas across the gym, including a prominent central performance zone, dedicated lifting positions and separate strength and cardio areas.
A four-station modular lifting structure provides a focal point for strength training, supported by free weights, benches and a dumbbell range extending to 50kg. Selectorised and plate-loaded strength equipment was then used selectively to broaden the training offer without allowing fixed machines to dominate the floor.
The performance side of the gym was given equal importance. Rowers, Ski Max machines, bikes and an air bike provide conditioning options, while sleds, plyometric equipment and functional accessories allow the same area to support more varied sessions. Storage was integrated into the plan so that this flexibility did not come at the expense of an organised training environment.
Flooring became part of the design rather than simply a finishing surface. Durable 20mm rubber flooring provides the foundation across the main gym, while contrasting turf lanes and oak lifting inserts visually define the performance and lifting areas and help members understand how the space is intended to be used.
The Result
The completed gym gives 11:11 a strong proposition as a new independent fitness facility in Earby. Strength, functional training, conditioning and traditional cardio can all take place within one environment, but the clear zoning prevents the gym from feeling like a collection of unrelated equipment.
The central performance area gives the facility a recognisable identity, while the surrounding strength and conditioning zones provide enough variety for different training goals and coaching styles. Integrated storage and clearly defined flooring also help the gym remain organised as activity changes throughout the day.
Most importantly, the finished space gives 11:11 flexibility. The facility can support individual training, structured strength work and performance-led sessions without repeatedly having to rearrange or compromise the gym floor, providing a stronger foundation for an independent operator as the facility develops.
