Derbyshire Fire and Police

The Joint Fire and Police Service Training Centre at Butterley Hall in Derbyshire required a gym that could support both general training and specific fitness test requirements. With staff from both services sharing the facility, the equipment list and layout had to meet a wide range of needs while making best use of the available space.

The Challenge

The project required a design that balanced space efficiency with the provision of varied training options. Both Fire and Police staff needed access to cardio, strength, free weights, and functional equipment, with the additional requirement that machines supported official fitness testing protocols.

The Solution

During the planning stage, a detailed layout design was created to determine how much equipment could be effectively incorporated. This design was shared across both forces to ensure their requirements were met.

Equipment installed included:

  • 2 x T98 Treadmills (with pre-programmed Chester Walk Tests for Fire and Police)
  • Tornado Airbike
  • Smith Machine
  • 2 x Dual Station Machines

Free weights and functional training area

The Result

The completed facility provides both Fire and Police staff with a versatile training environment. The inclusion of the T98 Treadmills ensures official fitness tests can be carried out with ease, while the range of cardio, strength, and functional equipment supports daily training requirements. The gym now serves as a shared, practical space tailored to the needs of both services.
