Increasing community engagement through an inclusive functional training studio
"FitBox has given us a completely different training offer under the same roof. It looks and feels premium, supports serious performance training, and has helped us attract members who want something more focused and immersive."
Like many local authority leisure facilities, Orford Jubilee Hub faced pressure to remain relevant while operating within strict budget constraints. Existing spaces were ageing and underused, with limited appeal to younger audiences and those looking for structured functional training. At the same time, the centre needed to remain inclusive and accessible for a broad demographic, from first-time exercisers to more experienced users. Any new investment had to deliver clear public value, justify ongoing operational costs, and avoid becoming a niche facility that only served a narrow group.
The Solution
Gym Gear worked with LiveWire to create a dedicated “box within a box” studio that could sit alongside traditional leisure provision while offering something distinctly different. The design focused on long-term durability, ease of maintenance, and flexibility of use, ensuring the space could support a wide range of classes and abilities without frequent reconfiguration or additional spend.
The layout prioritised clear flow, safe circulation, and efficient storage so sessions could run back-to-back with minimal downtime. Equipment choices were made to support inclusive functional training, allowing coaches to scale sessions for different abilities while keeping the studio relevant to emerging training formats. Robust flooring and fixed infrastructure were selected to withstand high daily usage and reduce long-term maintenance demands, helping LiveWire protect its investment over time.
The Result
The FitBox Studio has created a new focal point within the leisure centre, driving increased participation and bringing new users into the facility. The space supports a wide programme of activity, from community fitness sessions to higher-intensity functional training, without excluding less confident users.
By investing in a flexible, durable environment, LiveWire has improved accessibility, reduced the risk of underused space, and strengthened the long-term sustainability of the site. The studio now plays a clear role in meeting public health objectives, supporting inclusive participation, and ensuring the leisure centre continues to deliver value for the local community well into the future.
