"The gym has been a game-changer for our players. It gives them the tools and space to train at a professional level all year round."
— Reading Rockets Basketball Club
Founded in 1997, Reading Rockets Basketball Club has long championed player development through sport. During lockdown, the club’s owners saw an opportunity to enhance their athlete support by creating a gym facility designed specifically for fitness, strength, and performance training. The goal was to build a space that matched the professional standards of the club’s on-court ambitions.

The Challenge
The club required a versatile training space that could support a wide range of physical preparation needs, from high-intensity conditioning to strength and functional movement training. The layout needed to make the best use of available space while maintaining safety, accessibility, and capacity for group sessions.
The Solution
Gym Gear began by reviewing the club’s wishlist of equipment and providing full specifications and service information. Once approved, the design team developed detailed 3D visuals and walkthroughs to help visualise the balance between cardio, strength, and functional training zones.
The final installation included:
Cardio: Rowing machines and air bikes for HIIT-style conditioning.
Strength: Half power racks, benches, and a glute/ham bench.
Flooring: 20mm premium rubber tiles with ramped edging for durability and a professional finish.
This design aligned with Gym Gear’s four pillars of gym design philosophy: optimising the training environment, supporting progression for all levels, encouraging community interaction, and ensuring training diversity through varied equipment options.
The Result
The completed facility provides Reading Rockets with a high-performance gym tailored to the demands of their athletes. The balanced mix of cardio, strength, and functional equipment supports both individual training and team-based sessions. Players now benefit from a consistent, professional environment designed to elevate performance, recovery, and long-term athletic development.
