"The new Sports Centre provides our students and the local community with an outstanding training environment that supports performance, participation and wellbeing"
— Sedbergh School
Sedbergh School required a modern training facility within their new Sports Centre that reflected the school’s reputation for sporting excellence. The gym needed to support pupils competing at every level while also offering high-quality fitness provision for local community groups. Flexibility and efficient use of space were key priorities throughout the project.

The Challenge
Sedbergh School’s ambition was to create a facility capable of meeting diverse user needs - from elite athletes to casual exercisers. The design had to balance accessibility with performance, ensuring an efficient layout that could handle high footfall while maintaining a premium training experience. The space also had to integrate seamlessly within the architectural design of the wider Sports Centre.
The Solution
Gym Gear collaborated closely with the architects and project management team, developing several iterations of the gym layout using advanced 3D design software. This process allowed the team to refine the layout for flow, accessibility, and multi-use functionality before installation began.
Equipment installed included:
Gym Gear Entertainment Series cardio machines
Wattbikes
Concept 2 Rowers
M Sport Spin Bikes
Jacobs Ladder
Gym Gear Elite Series strength machines, with a focus on dual-purpose units for space efficiency
The Result
The completed Sports Centre now stands as a flagship facility for both Sedbergh School and the surrounding community. Pupils benefit from a professional-standard environment that supports their athletic development, while community access has tripled from 15 to 45 hours per week. The centre also includes two additional indoor courts, enabling uninterrupted training and fixtures year-round.
This project demonstrates how a well-planned gym installation can elevate both school sport and community engagement.
