Now that England is in another lockdown, more and more people have been asking us about setting up a gym at home.
Having a home gym is a great way to meet fitness goals and, depending on the equipment you need, you can set one up with all kinds of budgets.
To give you a helping hand, we’ve put together this blog post outlining how to get all the equipment you need to build a home gym for under £5,000.
Flooring
Safety is so important when you’re setting up a home gym – not just your safety, but the safety of your house as well! If you’re going to be lifting weights or adding extra pressure to your floor, we recommend that you get our rubber floor tiles.
These floor tiles are hard wearing and will protect your floor from damage. Our floor tiles come in 20mm and 30mm, and we recommend that you use the thicker tiles if your training is likely to have a big impact on your floor, such as with free weights.
Olympic Plates
Ideal for both beginners and seasoned weightlifters, olympic plates are brilliant for home gyms because they’re easy to use and easy to store.
Our 140kg rubber olympic disc and bar set gives you everything you need to get started with olympic plates. The set comes with a 7ft olympic bar weighing 20km, rubber olympic tri-grip weight plates (2x 20kg, 2x 15kg, 2x 10kg, 2x 5kg, 6x 2.5kg, 4x 1.25 kg), and 1 pair of spring collars.
The bar in this set has a 700lb weight capacity and a 32mm diameter grip.
Dual Adjustable Pulleys
Dual adjustable pulleys give you loads of flexibility to a wide range of fitness exercises at home, from chest flyers to plans and pallof press squats to half-kneeling face pulls.
The Gym Gear Elite Series dual adjustable pulley is designed to increase your strength, balance, coordination, and power. It comes with an integrated chin up bar, as well as 2 long and short strap handles, 1 tricep rope, 1 3ft bar, and 1 leg extension/curl up strap. It’s end fitting tested to 250,000 cycles and gives you complete flexibility and freedom of motion.
The Gym Gear Elite Series multi-adjustable bench is a durable and stable lifting platform that can be used for the dual adjustable pulley, free weights or as an addition to stands and power racks. It has a built in handle and wheels, so it’s easy to transport and it has an adjustable seat and back support pads that incline to 90 degrees.
Squat racks
Squat racks are a classic piece of equipment for any type of gym, whether that’s at home or commercial.
The Gym Gear Pro Series squat rack is simple but mighty. Safe and not too big, this squat rack is ideal for home gyms and has 6 olympic plate storage horns and has gun style racking. This squat rack has a walk through design and fixed safety bar supports at 71cm from the floor.
The Gym Gear Sterling Series half-power squat rack is a more heavy duty option and features a built-in chin up bar. It has 10 olympic plate horns for storage, as well as 2 adjustable safety hooks and 2 adjustable safety spot arms.
With squat racks, you can do deadlifts, bench presses, overhead presses, squats, and more.
Dumbbells
Easy to move, store, and use, dumbbells are one of the best pieces of equipment you can have for strength training in a home gym, and you can also use them in Crossfit and circuit training.
Our 2.5-15kg set of dumbbells has an anti-roll hexagonal design, so they won’t roll away when you set them down, and the weights have a rubber covering for safety and protection.
Smith Machine
Not only are Smith machines really safe to use, they also give you awesome results. Smith Machines are a type of strengthening equipment that hold the barbell within their frame.
The main benefit of the machine is to spot for you while you’re lifting weights. This is particularly useful for training at home, because you might not always have a spotter with you. Plus, they’re designed to not take up too much floor space, perfect for home gyms.
With Smith Machines, you can do squats, deadlifts, shrugs, crunches, and many more exercises, and our Elite Series Smith Machine has a 200kg load capacity, independent safety catches with 10 stacking positions, and is incredibly durable.

Kettlebells
Whether you’re an avid gym-goer or you’re just dipping your toes in the water, kettlebells will be an excellent addition to your home gym. Kettlebells are a type of conditioning equipment, perfect for improving your posture, core strength and balance, as well as increasing your cardiovascular fitness and muscular strength/endurance.
Our rubber kettlebells range from 4kg – 24kg in weight and have a protective rubber coating. These kettlebells are precisely balanced so that you can have the best control over them, and they have flat bottoms, making them easy to store.
These are just some examples of the types of premium gym equipment you can get for your home gym and keep the costs below £5,000. Visit our website to see the other gym equipment we have available, including cardio equipment, functional training equipment, and studio gym equipment.
