Heartbeat is the North West’s leading cardiac rehabilitation charity, providing services for over 800 people every week. Based within the grounds of Preston North End Football Club, Heartbeat delivers a high standard of post-hospital rehabilitation for people affected by heart disease.
Part of the rehabilitation process takes place through structured exercise classes in one of the onsite gyms. Gym Gear have been working with Heartbeat for nearly 10 years, supporting them with new fitness equipment and gym equipment maintenance. This new project involved creating a smaller new gym out of an old office space.
The main reason for creating this gym was to provide a training facility for members who have completed their rehabilitation course but still want to remain active to help prevent future health problems. Many of Heartbeats clients like the comfort of being able to continue to exercise in a space where they will receive expert guidance based on previous health issues.
Design and Planning
The space for the new gym was quite small but and needed to provide a good range of equipment to meet the objective. Our 3D visualisations provided the opportunity to experiment with different designs and equipment until we arrived at a design that was both functional and had the right mix of equipment.
With space at a premium our dual series strength was the most effective option for providing a wide range of exercises in a small space. A mix of Gymgear 98 and 97 series cardio was installed together with a Stairmaster, Concept 2’s and a Tornado bike to add some variety.
Our client is thrilled with the end result, and the new gym is proving popular with clients who can continue to enjoy training in a vibrant environment with all the support they require.
