Gym Gear were initially contacted to help refurbish IKEA’s gym at their distribution centre based in Doncaster. The previous facility offered dated equipment which was in need of modernising. The IKEA team also wanted to refresh the types of equipment offered based upon more up-to-date forms of training.

Gym Design & Planning

The original gym was dominated by single station strength machines. The layout design and planning phase was important to help IKEA to visualise how their gym could look with more Cardio stations together with the multi purpose strength equipment as per the clients wishlist.

Equipment Installed

A number of machines from our Elite Series strength range have been installed and these included 2 x full size Cable Crossovers plus a Leg Press and a Vertical Knee Raise frame. These machine are supported by a T98e Treadmills which offers the ability to watch TV, browse the internet and pick your favourite virtual workout location such as a run on the beach or in the mountains. A cross trainer, upright bike, rower and also a Jacobs Ladder have also been included in the refurbished gym area.

This gym has been onsite for over a year and the feedback from our client is that the new equipment has made a massive difference to the levels of usage by the employees based at the site. The gym continues to be used more and more and this has helped to justify the initial investment which has been made.

“On arrival as the Facilities Manager at the IKEA Distribution Centre two years ago it was great to see that the site had its own gymnasium but the equipment in it was a little dated.  After contacting Richard from Gym Gear he helped me identify the best equipment to meet our requirements and the installation of the new machines was quick, safe and very professional.  We have enjoyed the newly refurbished gym for over 12 months now and the equipment is as good as new despite significant usage and is being enjoyed by ‘the many’.  I would definitely recommend Gym Gear to any organisation that was looking to replace or buy new gym equipment”
